If you are a rapper looking for beats and there aren't any good producers in your city to link up with, where do you go for beats? The internet. Over the last few years more and more producers have begin to sell rap beats online.
Soundclick was probably the first online marketplace for rappers trying to find beats. Started in 1997, the site has evolved into the number one destination for beats. Here, many talented producers, as well as countless wack producers compete for a top spot in the Soundclick charts. This spot is determined by play count and the producers that reach the top here are usually fairly talented.
However, that doesn't mean that there aren't gems to be found in the beats of producers further down the charts. Now producers not only sell their beats on Soundgine, but on other sites dedicated to beat sales such as Soundclick, Airbit or BeatStars. These sites have begun to attract a number of talented producers and continue to grow. Personally I think there is more talent on Soundgine but that doesn't mean that there aren't hot beats to be found on BeatStars or Airbit (formerly known as Myflashstore.)
In addition to the larger online marketplaces, many producers have started their own sites. This allows them greater control over which beats are featured as well as how much beats cost and when they want to have sales.
How much do rap beats online cost?
The great thing about buying rap beats online is that they're cheap. Producers typically sell non-exclusive licenses to beats for between $19.99, $25 and $30. This means that if you purchase one of these beats, you may use it in your own projects but the producers can also sell the beats to other rappers as well. Additionally, there are usually limits to how many copies you can sell with a non-exclusive license.
The alternative to buying non-exclusive rap beats is buying them exclusive. This will cost more money but is a better option for a rapper that wants to be the only artist with rights to use the beat. If you as a rapper are serious about your career, it is highly recommended that you buy your beats exclusive. It's pretty embarrassing when you release a single and it's over a beat that someone else has already used. Keep non-exclusive licensed rap beats for mixtapes while using exclusive license beats for your albums.
Where to Find Beats/Instrumentals?
Got it?
So now you know a number of places where you can go to buy beats online. You should definitely check out the rap beats at some of the larger sites such as ChrisvilleBeats.com as finding a go-to producer that you know will deliver is well worth the time spent. Producers will also sometimes consider giving discounts if you are a frequent customer.
